Welcome to the WCS Technology Department

  • Our mission and main focus is to provide modern, high quality, reliable and safe digital learning environments for our students, teachers and staff.  As technology continues to increase in importance in the way we deliver instruction and in our everyday lives, we must provide the infrastructure, hardware and resources to ensure our students and staff have what they need to be successful.  

    The technology department consists of 5 full-time technical staff members, including a Help Desk which provides daily face-to-face and phone support to all of our schools. Our schools are each staffed with Digital Learning Coaches, working with students and teachers to transform teaching and learning.

  • New for the 2019-2020 school year! 

    1Million Project   Potential is everywhere.  Opportunity is not.

    Watauga County Schools is participating in the 1Million Project.  This project provides wireless cellular hotspots to high school students at no charge for the purpose of providing Internet connectivity when off campus.  Students who do not have access to high speed, reliable Internet at home, may apply for a wireless device to take home this school year.  This grant is providing 10GB of high speed data each month at no charge to eligible students.  

    To apply for a wireless device, contact the Watauga High School Help Desk (828-264-2407, Ext. 12209).  You will be placed on a list to receive introductory materials and attend an informational meeting.

  • For the 2018-19 school year, our 1:1 mobile computing device for students will be a Lenovo N23 or 100e Chromebook


    Please note that we will issue a protective drop-in sleeve with each device, for students grades 8-12.  

    We will not be issuing backpacks to students.

  • Media/Technology Advisory Committee

    The purpose of the district-wide Media and Technology Advisory Committee is to review and advise the media/technology planning process for our district leadership.  The committee shall also participate in the decisions regarding recommendations for use of funds designated for technology. It will coordinate an annual evaluation of the technology implementation and make recommendations to the Board of Education regarding technology issues.

    Our meeting dates for the 2019-20 school year:
