Jamie Oxentine

My role at Cove Creek School is serving alongside my fellow colleagues as the Instructional Technology Facilitator.  As ITF, I support students, teachers, and staff concerning the ISTE standards, oversee the 1:1 program at Cove Creek and support a wide variety of digital resources, the equipment needed to maintain/support the delivery of instruction, and ultimately, student learning and growth.  My responsibilities also include collaboration, planning, co-teaching, and helping to identify appropriate resources to assist all teachers and support staff whose goal is to meet the diverse needs of our students.  My hope is that all our students will know they are valued and loved and are adequately prepared with skills that will allow them to be successful and productive citizens and role models for others.  The faculty and staff at Cove Creek hope to see our students share in a sense of global awareness and responsibility as future communicators, be higher-level, critical thinkers and problem-solvers, and discern what it means to leave a positive digital footprint.

In addition to my role as ITF, I also teach several MS exploratory classes, maintain both a fixed and flexible schedule which includes teaching digital citizenship classes to our K-5 students and serve on multiple committees which include SIT, CC MTAC, WCS MTAC, and the Elementary Curriculum Committee. I also provide professional development and serve as the building-level tech support for technology.

On a personal note, I grew up in the foothills of NC and come from a family of educators.  I have a younger brother whose profession is in public service and a sister-in-love who is also a dedicated educator.  I have two beautiful nieces who are the loves of my life. And a Godly Mother who inspires me every day with her walk of faith.  I have always aspired to follow in my parent's footsteps by becoming an educator and feel as though I am living my dream.  I received my Associate of Arts Degree from Western Piedmont Community College and earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Appalachian State University.  I have been an educator for over 20 years, the majority of which has been spent serving in Watauga County.  For a brief time, I had the unique privilege and opportunity to teach and serve abroad at the International Christian School of Budapest, Hungary from 2001-2005.  I am honored to be a Watauga County educator and serve our wonderful community.
