Hello, I am the School Counselor for Valle Crucis School and welcome to the School Counselor Page. Valle Crucis is a Pre-K through 8th grade school and is a fantastic place to work and learn. I am dedicated to helping children and their families overcome obstacles to learning and make their school experience at Valle Crucis the best it can be. If I can be of assistance, please feel free to contact me, or just drop in, and I would be happy to speak with you. Please browse the links to the left for specific information related to a variety of topics. Make it a great school year.
Large Group: There may be a regularly scheduled time, or a select time span during which I present lessons to whole classes to address social-emotional development, cognitive development, career development, character education or prevention based activities.
Small Group: Frequently there are a small group of students within a class or grade will be experiencing difficulties in the same area. During those times, it is useful to work with those students in particular on the issues(s) at hand. Each group will be uniquely tailored to meet the specific needs of the students included. Frequently occurring issues are relationship dynamics, behavior management, grief/loss, change in family dynamics, and emotional regulation, among many others.
Individual Counseling: Sometimes a student will be experiencing a unique set of circumstances, for which 1:1 counseling is most appropriate. When necessary, students have the opportunity for that individual time and intervention.
Academic Planning / Transition: Every student has a unique set of academic strengths and needs, and many don't fit the mold of a traditional student. During these time, I can work with the student, family and colleagues to make adjustments to most adequately meet the needs of that student. The transition from 8th grade to 9th grade is an important, exciting and anxious time for both students and families. A lot of activities throughout the year will take place, for 8th grade students, to ease this transition. For more specific information regarding WHS Transition, please click the link on the left.
Collaboration / Consultation: There are many issues that come up behind the scenes that need to be addressed to support the entire continuum of student ability levels and personalities. During these times, I will work with the teachers and office personnel to ensure needs are meet and the educational experience is a seamless as possible.
Regardless of the format, I am always happy to work with any student and their family to make their educational experience at Valle Crucis School as positive and meaningful as possible. Please don't assume that I am aware of a situation, I can only deal with those things that I know about. If you are interested in any of these services for your child or have additional questions regarding the role of a School Counselor, please let me know.
