Mr. Mitch Wright

I was born in Miami, Florida where I lived most of my early life.  I went to Miami Palmetto High School, and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from John B. Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. Having spent vacation time every year of my life in the High Country, I moved to Boone, NC and earned a teaching degree at Appalachian State University.  I continued into the grad school at App and earned a Master's degree in  Middle School Education with concentrations in Language Arts and Social Studies.

It was then that I returned to Central Florida, and taught Middle School Social Studies and English for ten years nearby where I had attended my undergraduate studies.  After deciding to move from Florida, I proposed living in the High Country that I had loved for so many years.  Jill, Gavin and I live in Boone, and I was teaching at Caldwell Early College High School since 2008 before taking a job at Valle Crucis School last school year. One of my favorite things to do is travel, see new places, and experience the various cultures and sites of the world.  I have traveled throughout Europe, Costa Rica, Peru, Egypt, and across Asia.

I met my future wife, Jill, in 2005.  With us both being very interested in world travel, we made our first trip together to Greece, and Egypt.  I proposed to her while we were visiting the Greek island of Santorini.  After we were married back in Florida, we took our honeymoon abroad again, trecking all over China, and even making it to the “roof of the world” in Tibet.  

Right before Gavin was born in 2011, Jill and I took a trip across Italy, exploring Venice, Rome, Florence Pisa, Cinqe Terre and Pompeii. Last year, I traveled to Berlin, Germany, Warsaw and Krakow, Poland, Vienna, Austria, and Prague, Czech Republic. This Summer, it was the Mexican Riviera and New York City.  I've had many experiences that I love to share with students throughout the year if they'd like to hear them.

I am very excited to be at VC, and am so glad to be back to my roots, teaching Middle School.  You guys are who I was made to teach!
