Shelly: I have been teaching reading for 17 years; 15 of those years have been at Parkway.  Proficient reading is foundational for success in school and in life. I love teaching early elementary students the skills and strategies they need to be competent readers. My instruction focuses on students reading engaging, instructionally leveled texts.  Our classes include phonics instruction, vocabulary and writing.

McKenna: This is my first year teaching, as well as my first year at Parkway School. I completed my student teaching here last spring and I recently graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Elementary Education. I am currently working on pursuing my Masters Degree in Reading Education. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was five years old, and Parkway is the best place to be. I love our students and our community, so it is a pleasure to get to work with and serve your children this year! I believe that reading is essential to education and all aspects of life. My instruction will focus on students reading text that is developmentally appropriate for them and matches their individual reading level. We will be doing fun and engaging lessons that will give them a skill set they need to succeed in reading!
