Degrees and Certifications:
Kelly Young, RN, BSN
Welcome to Student Health Services! I am honored to serve your children and their health needs.
I graduated from East Carolina University in December of 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Since then, I have worked as a RN shift leader on a medical-surgical floor (including pediatrics) at Wilkes Baptist Medical Center in Wilkesboro and most recently as a RN Team Leader at the Foley Center in Blowing Rock. In 2016 I earned the Nursing Excellence Award at Appalachian Regional Healthcare System. I started serving as a school nurse at Watauga Couny Schools in October of 2018.
In addition to attending to injuries and medications during the school day, I also provide health education and case management services to students. It is a high priority of mine to ensure that our students stay healthy so that they can be successful in school. I also serve Mabel School in this role and could not be successful without the wonderful help of the front office staff at both schools.
I am also the advisor for Watauga County Schools middle school HOSA chapter. HOSA stands for Health Occupations Students of America. Our HOSA students are interested in pursuing a career in the health field later in life. Our HOSA students compete in health related competitions at the regional and state level, and also do projects to serve our community.
When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughter. We enjoy doing anything outdoors.
