Superintendent Dr Leslie Alexander
Parents, Students, and Families,
We are excited to welcome you to Watauga County Schools for the 2024-2025 school year! In WCS, we believe that our schools are the best place to learn and work in North Carolina! Our goal is to graduate all students well-prepared for further education, a career, and productive citizenship. We believe that the best way to ensure the success of our students is through prioritizing three important areas:
-
Student Achievement ~ We believe that all students have the ability to learn and grow. While we are proud of how well our students perform on end-of-grade and end-of-course assessments, we understand that student success is much broader than these individual measures. We want to ensure that our students feel positive about school, and that they grow in their self-confidence. By providing supportive and nurturing environments, our students will have the best opportunity to gain a love of learning.
-
Talent Development ~ By attracting, retaining, and developing our employees, Watauga County Schools will be well-positioned to ensure student success now and in the future. The “magic” of Watauga County Schools is solely dependent on the amazing teachers and staff who work here. By valuing and caring for our employees, we ensure that Watauga County Schools IS the best place to work and learn.
-
Culture ~ We cannot achieve our first two priorities without a collaborative school and district culture. From our Board of Education to our Central Office to our individual school campuses, we believe that treating others with respect and kindness is the key to creating a positive climate.
Great things are happening in Watauga County Schools, and we look forward to continuing to partner with you to ensure that your child has the best educational experience possible!
Sincerely,
Dr. Leslie Alexander, Superintendent
