Alex is the middle grades social studies teacher for the Watauga Virtual Academy. She has spent the past 2 years at North Wilkes Middle School teaching 7th-grade social studies and science. She loves to go for runs with her dog and play board games with her family and friends in her free time.
Ann is the Second Grade teacher for WVA. She has taught for 18 years in various configurations from PreKindergarten to Special Education. She is certified Prek through Sixth grade. She has lived in New Jersey, Vermont, and now in North Carolina. Her favorite thing to do is anything that involves spending time with family. She is married and has two children; and also shares a home with her parents. Her home includes a puppy, named Zoey, two grown dogs, King and Nala, as well as a cat, named Oliver. She enjoys hiking, swimming, and winter sports.
Dante is the Middle Grades Science teacher for the WVA. He has previously taught middle school science for 4 years and is excited to join the Watauga Schools Family. Dante is an avid outdoorsman and can usually be found in woods near his home. He also enjoys spending time with his fiancé and two dogs, Dixie and Mia.
Ashley is a fourth grade teacher for Watauga Virtual Academy. She has taught a variety of grade levels during her 18 years as an educator. She loves spending time on the beach, but loves the mountains and kayaking on the New River. Football season is her favorite time of the year. She bleeds black and silver on game days - Go Raiders!
Katie is the 3rd grade teacher for Watauga Virtual Academy. She has worked in 3rd grade the past 5 years. She has a master’s degree in Elementary Education with a Curriculum Specialist add-on. She has a lifelong love of learning. She enjoys spending time with her family and 2 dogs, Shrek and Fiona. Lastly, she is a HUGE Green Bay Packers fan! GO PACK GO!
Sarah is the Blended Learning Coordinator and LMS admin for Watauga County Schools. She has been in education for over 13 years and has taught Kindergarten through 12th grade. She loves spending time with her husband and sweet dog, reading, and traveling.
Terry is our 5th grade instructor for WVA. He has been with WCS since 2008 in a variety of roles with our students. Terry’s skill as an educator and his background in audio engineering and broadcasting brings a unique and energizing experience to our virtual students. He loves spending time with his wife and 4 kids, and all things soccer, music, and outdoors!
Christy Laws is the middle school English Language Arts teacher for Watauga Virtual Academy. She has taught for 25 years with 21 of those years being in Watauga County Schools. Christy is a Nationally Board Certified Teacher with a Masters in Reading Education and certifications in math, reading, science, and social studies. She loves spending time with her husband and six daughters, reading, photography, and being involved with her church.
Jean is the Kindergarten and First Grade teacher for Watauga Virtual Academy this year. She has spent her 20 year teaching career in Kindergarten and First Grade.This is her second year in Watauga Schools teaching virtually and she is so excited about the year to come. She is married to Dennis and has one adult son, Will. She enjoys spending time with friends and family.
