• Becoming a Substitute in Watauga County Schools

    Qualifications:

    Individual must have obtained a high school diploma. A GED without an associate's degree does not meet the requirements. Potential substitutes MUST meet with a principal or assistant principal in Watauga County Schools to obtain a recommendation for employment.  You may apply online by clicking HERE.

    ONLINE SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TRAINING

    We are very excited to offer online training for all of our new substitute teachers in Watauga County. This is a required training in order to be recommended to the Board of Education for approval as a Substitute Teacher. 

    This virtual training is offered by the App-Garden University. There are many benefits to you as a potential substitute teacher such as the ability to train anytime and anywhere you have access to the internet. It is important that we be able to keep you current on Board policies and procedures as well as giving you great tips and ideas for being a successful substitute teacher. This training is required for all individuals who have not completed a teacher education program. The cost for this course is $29.00 and is the responsibility of the potential substitute.

    Once you have completed the online training, you may print a certificate of completion to keep for your records.     RATES OF PAY

    For individuals who hold a valid North Carolina Professional Educator's Certificate, the rate of pay is $140 per day. The rate of pay for all other substitutes is $113 per day.
