Student/Parent Mobile Computing Device Handbook
All Watauga County Schools students in grades 8 through 12 are issued their own Chromebook for use in their classes. These devices are an integral part of the innovative teaching and learning central to our mission. Click on this link to access the WCS Student/Parent Mobile Computing Device Handbook. This handbook outlines general guidelines for using a personal device at school. Parents and students will sign this agreement prior to being issued a school device.
1:1 Student Devices
New for the 2019-2020 school year!
Watauga County Schools is participating in the 1Million Project. This project provides wireless cellular hotspots to high school students at no charge for the purpose of providing Internet connectivity when off campus. Students who do not have access to high speed, reliable Internet at home, may apply for a wireless device to take home this school year. This grant is providing 10GB of high speed data each month at no charge to eligible students.
To apply for a wireless device, contact the Watauga High School Help Desk (828-264-2407, Ext. 12209). You will be placed on a list to receive introductory materials and attend an informational meeting.
The device issued to students are Chromebooks. The majority of our devices are Lenovo N23 or 100e Chromebooks. Click on this link to access more information about the device and the carrying case that WCS students will be issued.
Chrome Apps/Extensions approved for WCS Students
Click this link to view the Chrome apps and extensions that are available for student use at WCS. Some apps and extensions are only available for specific users based on age and grade level. If you are unable to install an app or extension it is not approved for your group.
Student Password Portal
New this year! Students who wish to change their Windows password, should access the password portal by clicking on this link. This portal is only available from inside our school network. The user will need to put Wcs\ before their user name in the Domain\user name box.
Example: Wcs\Doej
Once changed in the portal, your WCS Gmail password will also be changed, to sync.

This internal form is used for staff to request a Chrome App or Extension be whitelisted for student use in our K-8 schools. The form is intended to be used for collaborative planning with the school-base Instructional Technology Facilitator.
